The direct TV continuation to the Evil Dead franchise and Ash’s never ending saga to fight the deadites provides new narrative and introduces new key characters in to the long-running series. Once again starring Bruce Campbell as chainsaw arm, boom stick wielding Ash; the series revolves around the deadite defier Ash taking on a couple of proteges as he looks to stop the Evil Dead once and for all.
Ash vs Evil Dead is an 2015 action, adventure, horror TV spin off. It is produced by Renaissance Pictures, and airs exclusively on the Starz network.
Having as of yet never seeing any of the original Evil Dead films (I have seen the recent reboot), I was extremely impressed with the story of Ash and the Evil Dead universe. The narrative provides a fun, action packed story for the characters involved. Unfortunately many are killed off one by one like nobody’s business. Star Bruce Campbell’s comedic touch on a tragic character brings everything together.
THE GOOD: Great dark comedy and classic Evil Dead action and scenery makes Ash vs Evil Dead the Evil Dead media long time fans have been wanting for years. While there was an reboot of the film in 2013. it was aimed at being more horror and lacking the comedic elements that made the original franchise special. Producer Sam Raimi brings all of that back to a t. The story for Ash vs Evil Dead was always full of surprises including the season finale cliffhanger, which Ash will undoubtedly come to regret in season two. There was also an fantastic soundtrack present for Ash vs Evil Dead.
THE BAD: Characters who would have been awesome in a longer, more prominent role die early on, which was somewhat frustrating.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Ash vs Evil Dead is a thrill ride and a long time fan’s dream. Sam Raimi brings the series back to it’s roots with it’s direction full of comedy, horror, and more. Quick character deaths will undoubtedly by heart breakers for some. Otaku Dome gives Ash vs Evil Dead season one an 90 out of 100.
