The first season of A Certain Magical Index is now complete in this new Blu-Ray box set. Toma Kamijo was an average student with supposedly no magical prowess of his own but his right hand which had the ability to cancel out basically all forms of it. He soon meets a young British Priest named Index who changes his life for the worst.
A Certain Magical Index is an 2009 Shounen anime series, it is produced by J.C. Staff and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming services.
Having finished A certain Magical Index I & II, I can say I’m officially a fan of the series, while light in tone for the most part, when compared to other Shounen, the series features a great cast and some cool action scenes, but it won’t be for everyone.
THE GOOD: The comedy and action of A Certain Magical Index was fairly good for a light toned Shounen series, but it wasn’t afraid of going dark when it wanted to, especially with the introduction of Accelerator. The present, but limited ecchi doesn’t distract viewers from the current arc which made it tolerable.
THE BAD: Sometimes it was hard to follow the current story due to the a & b pacing between a single arc. And some jumps in one story to another was somewhat annoying.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: A Certain Magical Index Season One featured a good introduction into the many characters featured in the series. The use of comedy and action was great, and the limited use of ecchi made it easier to avoid distractions from the story. I enjoyed the story arcs for season one, and thought Toma losing his memory was a nice twist, I also enjoyed the OST. Otaku Dome gives A Certain Magical Index The Complete First Season an 86 out of 100.
