Tokyo Ghoul is an 2011 Shounen manga series by Sui Ishida. It is licensed by Viz Media, and is currently available in English in both print and digital format.
In Volume 5 if Tokyo Ghoul Nishiki and Kaneki attempt to rescue Nishiki’s girlfriend Kimi from Tsukiyama after he reveals his true colors and intentions for Kaneki. To devour him as he devours Kimi. As Nishiki and Kaneki struggle against the Gourmet ghoul, Touka comes to the rescue just in time.
THE GOOD: In Volume 5 of Tokyo Ghoul it’s all action throughout most of the volume’s entirety. For being a gory manga series, Tokyo Ghoul has some fun light hearted moments, but when there’s nothing but pure action sequences, it makes you really appreciate Sui Ishida’s art style during these scenes. As a regular reader of Tokyo Ghoul, I can tell you the series really makes an impact and knows how to use it’s action.
THE BAD: While a side story, the detour backstory on Rize felt a little misplaced considering the placement of the canon arc.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Featuring some heavy focus on both Nishiki and Tsukiyama, as well as a huge amount of action panels, Tokyo Ghoul Volume 5 becomes it’s strongest volume yet. The action art in volume5 is Sui Ishida at his best, and the backstory on Nishiki is great. There’s a bonus side story featuring Rize, but it felt misplaced when paired to the Gourmet arc. Otaku Dome gives Tokyo Ghoul Volume 5 an 89 out of 100.
