The Legend of Zelda manga series brings Majora’s Mask and A Link to the Past together in a new Legendary Edition. Covering two of the most highly acclaimed entries within the series, featuring a child Link on his quest to defeat Skull Kid, and the adult Link taking on Ganon.

The Legend of Zelda is a manga adaption of the video game of the same name, it is written & drawn by Akira Himekawa, and licensed by Viz. It is currently available in English.

Featuring the plot of two legendary entries into an already legendary franchise, the third volume of The Legend of Zelda’s Legendary Editions has some promising content. Akira Himekawa’s writing & art direction while not one-hundred percent in line with its source material still holds just as much interest as the video games they represent.

THE GOOD: The series does its best to mimic its source material in both art and story, and for the most part it succeeds. There’s some obvious differences from game to print, but fans shouldn’t be too bothered by the minimal changers applied. While Akira Himekawa’s art style is mostly spot on, some of it, such as that for young Link’s design may take some getting used to.

THE BAD: Fans may not get used to some of the art and minimal directional changes.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While not exactly a mirror image of the video games it borrows its source from, The Legend of Zelda manga adaptions of Majora’s Mask and A Link to the Past are enjoyable enough for longtime fans of the iconic video game franchise. Some may not like certain changes, but for those who can look past it, they’ll have a fantastic video game to manga adaption to enjoy. Otaku Dome gives The Legend of Zelda Legendary Edition Vol. 3 a 89 out of 100.
