After releasing the acclaimed Boy and the Beast, what comes next from Mamoru Hasoda is the Funimation re-release of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. Teenager Makoto Konno learns that she can suddenly travel backwards in time a shirt distance after an incident takes place at her high school which gives her the aforementioned ability. As the story progresses Makoto understands how to control it, and messes with the past to alter unwanted situations from the present. She soon discovers why she gained the ability and how, as well as the dangers of time travel and time manipulation.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is an 2006 science fiction film by Mamoru Hasoda, it is produced by Madhouse, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray.
Originally released in 2006, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time received critical acclaim for it’s art direction, humor. writing and several other elements. The film now has a re-release onĀ Bu-Ray thanks to Funimation. Unfortunately there is no new English dub in the re-release version.
THE GOOD: The animation has what feels like an usual Hasoda flare so if you’re used to his work by now, then you should come to have no issues with The Girl Who Leapt Through Time’s animation style. The lead character Makoto was enjoyable to watch evolve throughout the film’s story, as she learned the consequences of altering time.
THE BAD: The horrible Ocean dub is still present, really wish Funimation would have re-dubbed the film with their in-house dub team.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The re-release of Mamoru Hasoda’s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time comes off the release of The Boy and The Beast. The Blu-Ray release is excellent for those looking to remind themselves of the film, as well as new viewers. If you’re a dub viewer don’t get too excited as Ocean’s dub is still present. Seems quite odd that Funimation opted not to re-dub it with their own team. Otaku Dome gives The Girl Who Leapt Through Time an 85 out of 100.
