Ever wondered what it would be like to play South Park: The Stick of Truth on your mobile device? Well soon (and in some countries now), you will have the ability to do just that, sort of. Announced at this year’s E3, South Park: Phone Destroyer is a mobile card battle game which essentially takes the combat mechanics of The Stick of Truth & Fractured but Whole, and bring them into a more mobile-friendly environment, and it actually works & is pretty damn fun.

South Park: Phone Destroyer is a 2017 F2P, RPG card game, it is developed by Redlynx Studios, and published by Ubisoft, it will release on iOS and Android devices later this year, however the beta is available in the following countries: Canada, Denmark, Finland, Brazil, Norway and Sweden.

Cowboys, Indians, and South Park.

South Park: Phone Destroyer is essentially what you’d call, an interquel to South Park: The Stick of Truth and the upcoming sequel South Park: Fractured But Whole. You once again take on the role of the new kid, and all the senior residents are aware of your presence and previous accolades (again pointing to Phone Destroyer being an interquel). You have the option to customize your character’s looks like in the core games, but the difference here is you act as a commander of sorts and send card after card to the battlefield to face the area boss. However, before you can get to the area boss, you have to go through several waves of enemies and what I suppose you would call mini-bosses before you can get your hands on the big bad.

South Park TCG has arrived!

The story of Phone Destroyer, as previously mentioned pits players as The New Kid from The Stick of Truth, taking inspiration from big brother sequel Fractured But Whole, the series has the boys going to war in a game of Cowboys and Indians, with Cartman as the leader of the Cowboys, and Stan as the leader of the Indians. There’s a traditional mobile game map in which you go from level to level to face bosses in order to move on to the next area. Along the way you’ll unlock different cards with different levels of strength & abilities. You can also combine cards for more powerful cards, each card will cost energy which restores over time during gameplay. Naturally in-app purchases are available if you so choose to take the option for higher level cards. One of Phone Destroyer’s most promising features is it’s real-time PVP mode, which pits actual players against one another (not simulated) in well, real-time, Wi-Fi would probably be most preferable for this mode.

South Park: Phone Destroyer’s gameplay.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of South Park: Phone Destroyer is the fact that the game features full cut scenes. Like the core games, the game’s art is near identical to the animated series, so it shouldn’t be that surprising to see cut scenes, but it’s still very much appreciated all the same. Many have probably already guessed that South Park: Phone Destroyer is one of the likely culprits responsible for South Park: Fractured But Whole’s recent delay, that said if they plan on releasing the game prior to Fractured But Whole’s release, fans will have a fun mobile experience to tide them over for a couple of months before South Park: Fractured But Whole releases this October.
