Overall score 60

The Smurfs 2 video game is a platformer movie tie in for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, and Nintendo DS. It is published and developed by Ubisoft and Way Forward.

THE GOOD: While there isn’t very much good to be had with most movie games, I suppose one Smurfs 2 has is they tried to put in some replay value. As you progress through the game you can unlock more Smurfs to play as along the way. The game also channels classic Super Mario.

Jokey Smurf I presume?

THE BAD: Gameplay gets repetitive…fast, but it does have some enjoyment. There was also times were it felt too easy to play, but it’s understandable considering it’s a game for children.

Bad Gargamel, bad!

THE UGLY: I’ll never understand why footage for the film a game is based on isn’t in the game itself. Maybe Ubisoft couldn’t get some sort of rights to scenes of the film? Or maybe Sony Animation didn’t want film footage in the game, at any rate I didn’t exactly enjoy the story book telling. Boss fights were rather confusing as well, I don’t even recall doing anything at all to defeat the first one.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While definitely meant for children the game does have some fun Super Mario like gameplay, however it’s quite repetitive. There was no footage from the film and boss fights made no sense from what I played.
