Peter Parker and crew is back in game form, and though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 derives from the movie of the same name, most of the storyline is completely original.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a 2014 action-adventure movie tie-in game. It is developed by Beenox and published by Activision. It is available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, IOS, and Andriod.

Spider-Man vs Black Cat.

Spider-Man games have been an up and down ride in terms of quality for quite some time. In fact the first & last Spider-Man that had a good score for quite sometime was the game that released on Nintendo 64. That all changed with the release of Spider-Man 2, another movie tie-in based on the previous film franchise. Everything was done right, the combat, the web slinging, the open world New York. These elements still have Spider-Man 2 billed as perhaps the best Spider-Man game ever made, at last from the last two generations. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 looked to improve upon, and while it was a decent effort compared to the original Amazing Spider-Man game, there’s still more polish needed.

Kraven and other classic Spider-Man villains appear.

THE GOOD: The amount of characters used in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was an excellent way to replace key storyline info from the film, so to avoid spoilers. Classic Spidey baddies such as Kraven, Kingpin, and even Carnage make their appearance, hell even Venom is in the mobile version. This helps expand The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s world beyond being that of an movie tie-in.  Combat was ok, especially if you knew what you were doing. And there’s quite a few upgrades to improve Spider-Man’ s abilities. There were a lot of Spidey suits that had unique attributes also. Web slinging received a nice upgrade as well.

THE BAD: Combat, though fun was just the same old attacks over and over again. It would have been nice if you could add different combos and what via a skill tree or something. Web slinging, was far more difficult to master than necessary, and without  proper tutorial like in the original game, the play time The Amazing Spider-Man 2 gives you doesn’t give you practicing web slinging on your own justice. The actors from the film don’t reprise their role, but considering Gwen Stacy isn’t in this game, I guess it’s understandable. There wasn’t any difficulty either, I recall dying a total of three times.

Electro rises.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s original storyline, and use of characters that haven’t been seen in the universe for quite some time are it’s main selling points. The open world New York was nicely made, but there wasn’t much to do beyond story and a few side quests. The actors not reprising their roles was annoying, but understandable, and web slinging was way too difficult to not warrant a tutorial of some kind. combat while fun, could have been improved a bit with some kind of skill tree for more originality with combos.
