After an critically acclaimed reboot, Lara Croft returns in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Featuring more terrain, and a new story focusing on the discoveries of her father, Lara goes in search of the Kitezh, a mystical lost city said to hold the key to immortality. With great story, gameplay, voice acting, and more Rise of the Tomb Raider becomes a prime example of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
THE GOOD: Rise of the Tomb Raider is an improved experience on the game we fell in love with in 2013. Great gameplay, and even more fantastic storytelling and designs puts Rise of the Tomb Raider on the map as a favorite game of the year. In the sequel Lara felt more real than ever as both her past and present are brought together as players progress through the story, and more is learnt of her farther and is fate.
THE BAD: Beyond gameplay being more or less the same, absolutely nothing.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: The long awaited sequel to 2013’s classic brings some great improvements on the 2013 game’s formula. Though repeated, Rise of the Tomb Raider’s formula remains as a great gaming experience, and gives us an truly worthy sequel to an already established franchise.
