Cabela’s hunting franchise is back in a new campaign focused game with a large amount of game to hunt, and terrain to cover.
Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts is a 2014 action-adventure hunting game. It is developed Cauldron & published by Activision, it is available on PC, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U.
THE GOOD: Pro Hunts is probably one of the realest hunting experiences you’ll ever have from a video game. There’s tons of game to go after, a good amount of terrain to cover, and a nice amount of weapons and upgrades. You can track your targeted game by footprints or blood spills (if you managed to hit it of course). There will be times where you have to take cover so your target won’t see you, and you’ll actually have to slow down to avoid attraction from noise. You can also get good view points from the high chairs in the trees.
There’s some really cool visuals in the game, such as the overall graphics. Another thing I thought was cool was the breathing ,mechanic to help steady your aim and shot. Once you do this an awesome animation begins that shows the bullet going into a bullet time effect, while showing the bullet piece through the skin of the animal, also shown are colorized images of the organs and bones.
THE BAD: While there’s a lot of game, weapons and terrain, the heavy focus on campaign really limits the game. There’s no arcade mode or anything of the like, so it kind of dwindles in terms of large content & gaming options.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Cabela’s Big Game Hunter: Pro Hunts is perhaps the best looking Cabela game to date graphically. There’s some awesome visuals seen throughout the game and a lot of game to go after. The emphasis on realism should definitely make any hunting fan feel at home with the game, however the extreme focus on campaign limits the game’s overall potential.
