What may be the greatest pair of superhero games of all time have been remastered for current gen consoles. Critically acclaimed and award winning Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City have come to Playstation 4 and Xbox One in beautiful HD and all the DLC in one spectacular package.
Batman: Return to Arkham is an 2016 open-world, action-adventure beat ’em up HD remaster of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, it is developed by Rocksteady Studios and published by WB Games. It is available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
Since the first entry released in 2009 Batman: Arkham has become a fan favorite franchise of not only fans of the core Batman lore, but gamers as a whole. With an original story penned by actual staff members who work on the Batman comics in DC including Paul Dini, the Arkham franchise holds its own against any top Batman storyline from source material, and even uses some source material in some games.
THE GOOD: Batman: Return to Arkham features the complete package of the pre-eighth gen Batman games (minus Origins and Blackgate). With the story driven DLC, challenge maps, and base games attached this is a wonderful package for fans getting the Batman itch again, or new players who missed out. In the Arkham series you play Batman exactly as you’d expect, full of an arsenal of weaponry, being able to take on gangs of weapon brandishing enemies all by his lonesome. You can glide and batclaw your way throughout the open worlds featured in the game (more so in Arkham City).
THE BAD: Not much incentive for players of the original beyond experiencing the games again due to a lack of replaying over the years.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Batman: Return to Arkham is a remaster that features two classic titles and the long overdue jump start of genuinely good comic book/superhero games. There isn’t much there for older players who were around for the first go-round, but for those who missed out last-gen, this collection is a must have.
