Mike Tyson is back in his own animated series, though only running at Adult Swim’s preferred 11-minute run time (15 with commercials), Mike Tyson Mysteries has the charm of an classic 80s adventure cartoon with some fun adult jokes sprinkled in. And Tyson’s voice over work comes off pretty excellently.
Mike Tyson Mysteries is an 2014 animated series starring Mike Tyson, it is produced by WB Animation & William Street. It premieres on Adult Swim on October 27, 2014.
Mike Tyson has entered the world of animation with his new animated series Mike Tyson Mysteries. While the plot isn’t it’s strong suit, I’ starting to think that the centered plot per episode was never intended to be. The show is pretty fun, that’s where it works, even the smallest line can bring in some laughs, and given the 11-minute run time, it’s going to help the show throughout its pilot season run.
THE GOOD: As mentioned the 11-minute run will either make or break Mike Tyson Mysteries, but as far as the pilot and follow up episode goes the writers are able to work with what they’re given. Tyson’s voice acting is one of the good things about Mike Tyson Mysteries, it comes off as genuine and Mike is hilarious. With concussion jokes and other forms adult humor he’s able to make his animated counterpart come off as an delusional mystery solver.
THE BAD: The plots are pretty nonsensical, but it’s fine due to the show being able to bring the laughs.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Mike Tyson Mysteries is a fun show that will have you reminiscing of the classic 80s cartoons such as Scooby Doo & Johnny Quest. The 11-minute run time might be difficult to work with as the season progresses, but for now the team is able to make it work. The plots are basically just there, but Mike Tyson Mysteries brings the laughs, so the plots don’t have to be strong. Otaku Dome gives Mike Tyson Mysteries’ pilot episode an 77 out of 100.
