Sketch Comedy duo Keagan-Michael Key & Jordan Peele’s wild sketch comedy series Key & Peele comes home in a brand new complete series boxset. Complete with all five seasons of the short lived series, and some special features, this set features every classic sketch from the acclaimed series.
Key & Peele is an 2011 sketch comedy series, it is produced by Comedy Central, and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The entire series is currently available on DVD and (some seasons) on Blu-Ray.
After the cancellation of Chappelle’s Show, fans were left with an unfilled void for truly funny comedy on the network, there were a few shows that worked, and many that didn’t. It soon got to the point were South Park & Tosh.0, and Workaholics were Comedy Central’s top comedy series, then in 2011 MadTV veterans Kegan-Michael Key & Jordan Peele launched the titular Key & Peele, which gained a cult like following almost immediately from its premiere onward.
THE GOOD: The central comedic styles of Key & Peele are in completed fashion in this DVD boxset. Featuring every season and episode the series’ comedic gold mine sketches such as Obama’s Anger Translator Luther, the Substitute Teacher, Megan, etc are present. While some Key & Peele sketches can be very hit & miss, most of them have serious laughing power behind them, especially when the titular leads want to get a serious point across, or just want to be plain old silly.
THE BAD: There’s no Blu-Ray alternative of this set, which is very disappointing.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: While not as powerfully followed as the aforementioned Chappelle’s Show, Key & Peele will undoubtedly go down as a legendary Comedy Central series. The offbeat and hilarious style of the titular duo won’t always hit it’s mark. but when it’s on, it’s some seriously funny stuff. Otaku Dome gives Key & Peele: The Complete Series an 89 out of 100.
