Gamefly has announced the return of iconic digital gaming distribution platform Direct2Drive:

ATGAMES RELAUNCHES ICONIC DIRECT2DRIVE BRAND
The Original Digital Download Brand Replaces ‘GameFly Digital’; New Features and Services Coming Soon

LOS ANGELES — NOV 7, 2014 — AtGames Digital Media, Inc., a global player in the distribution of interactive entertainment, today announced that after acquiring the ‘GameFly Digital’ game distribution platform from GameFly in April 2014, the company will re-launch the service this weekend under its original, iconic brand, Direct2Drive.

The reestablishment of the storied Direct2Drive brand marks only the first step in AtGames’ long-term vision to evoke an element of excitement to the process of discovering and playing games. Direct2Drive will ultimately represent a complete reimagining of how gamers purchase, share, and play games together.

The existing site is scheduled to shut down tonight and will return this weekend as Direct2Drive. Following the transition, community members and new customers can visit the all-new Direct2Drive by visiting www.Direct2Drive.com.

“We are extremely proud to revive the brand that started the digital game sales revolution, and look forward to reinventing Direct2Drive as the premiere destination for gamers in the digital space,” said Ed Lin, General Manager, Direct2Drive. “Our vision for the new Direct2Drive is to create the best destination, both for gamers to find their favorite titles and for publishers to showcase their lineups. We will bring a retail-quality experience to the digital world with the best incentives and events that gamers both expect and deserve.”

Originally launched in 2004, Direct2Drive was a groundbreaking forefather of today’s digital sales platforms before being acquired and renamed in 2011. Reviving the legendary name is the first part of AtGames’ plans to give gamers a destination that they can call their own.  The focus will be on the discovery and purchase of new, catalogue, and retro titles, with continued development of new features and experiences to come online over the next year.

For existing customers, the transition will be seamless – all of the games currently owned through GameFly Digital will carry over to the new Direct2Drive. Customers will be required to activate their accounts to help protect their privacy.

To kick off the relaunch, Direct2Drive is offering gamers the chance to win the “12 Legendary Gems of the Chosen One” or a Flashback Console of their choice. The “12 Legendary Gems of the Chosen One” will give 10 randomly drawn gamers 1 game every month for the 2015 calendar year.  Ten additional gamers will get to pick a Flashback Console of their choice (Atari Flashback 5, Sega Genesis, Sega Genesis Portable, Colecovision, or Intellivision). To enter the promotion, gamers should visit www.Direct2Drive.com.
