Code Geass has received a re-release from license holder Funimation. With original character designs by CLAMP and production by anime studio Sunrise, Code Geass is best known for its excellent writing, pacing, and more than satisfying conclusion to the story within its two season, fifty episode run. Main character Lelouch is the current Prince of Britannia exiled alongside his sister after the death of their mother, this leads Lelouch to a story of revenge, friendship, and redemption.
Code Geass is an 2006 Mecha anime series, it is produced by Sunrise and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Code Geass is a story about the exiled Prince of Britannia; Lelouch vi Britannia. Following the murder of his mother he and his younger sister flee to Japan, now named Area 11 in hiding. Lelouch under an assumed name comes into contact with the being C2 who grants him the ability to control anyone he comes into direct eye contact with via his Geass, but only once. As the series progresses Lelouch becomes the masked vigilante Zero and looks to obliterate the people who betrayed him.
THE GOOD: Code Geass is an emotional roller coaster ride around the conclusion of the series, Lelouch’s actual plan to save Japan and unite the world through the sacrifice of his own life by turning the once beloved Zero into a brutal, cold-blooded villain with Suzaku becoming “the real Zero” was an excellent twist to the already crazy story. There’s a bit of a mecha sub-genre, but they’re really just a bonus.
THE BAD: The plot can sometimes go a little all over the place with the multiple focus on Geass’, mechas, and the like.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Code Geass’ two season run is full of a fantastic plot of war, friendship, superpowers, and violence galore. There are times when it goes a little too wild from a story perspective, but the end game is one of the most satisfying conclusions in anime. Otaku Dome gives Code Geass: The Complete Series Blu-Ray an 87 out of 100.
