Blood Blockade Battlefront is the story of main character Leonard Watch, a member of Libra who fights the monsters who came from the portal from “beyond”. Together with his team, he faces these creatures in Hellsalem’s Lot, formerly known as New York City.
Blood Blockade Battlefront is an 2015 shounen anime series, it is produced by Studio Bones, and licensed by Funimation, it is currently available on DVD and Blu-Ray in English.
Blood Blockade Battlefront is a modern anime that received a rather early pick up from a US license holder. Though considering it’s produced by the acclaimed Bones, it’s not that surprising. It’s one of the first manga by Dark Horse Comics (US) to be animated.
THE GOOD: The art for Blood Blockade Battlefront is one of it’s most attractive features. As previously mentioned being animated by the acclaimed Bones instantly gave it an A+. There’s some blood here, as if it wasn’t obvious from the title, so if you’re not into that then you may not be into Blood Blockade Battlefront, if you are into it, then great. The action sequences in Blood Blockade Battlefront are solid enough to keep most shounen fans happy.
THE BAD: There’s anime exclusive characters that’s not present in the anime, and as stated there’s some gore, so again if you’re not into that then you may want to avoid. The series is also only twelve episodes long plus an OVA if you count it, so it can be knocked out in a couple of hours or so.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Gore, filler, and short episode count aside Blood Blockade Battlefront is an ok to good shounen series. The art direction and style is perhaps its biggest draw, though that isn’t to take anything away from the series overall. Otaku Dome gives Blood Blockade Battlefront an 81 out of 100.
