The Berserk anime series has received a bit of a resurgence thanks in part to the film trilogy released a few years ago. Now with a new anime series and the films getting re-released into a complete Blu-Ray/DVD set, this is the time more than ever to see the films that brought back the critically acclaimed series to life.
Berserk: The Golden Age Arc is an 2012 seinen anime film reboot for the 1997 anime Berserk, it is produced by Studio 4C, it is licensed by Viz Media, and it is currently available on DVD & Blu-Ray in English.
Best known for perhaps it’s hardcore violence & sexual content, Berserk stars swordsman, Guts a mercenary who eventually meets the leader of the Band of the Hawk; Griffith. After an initially awkward and heated encounter, the two eventually befriend each other and a woman named Casca. Soon the three have their lives changes by forces they can’t control.
THE GOOD: The character development between Casca, Guts, and Griffith is by far the most entertaining part of the films. If you’re a shounen/seinen fan, then you’re in luck as these films have a ton of elements from both, and things get bloody and gory super fast.
THE BAD: There’s a ton of blood and gore present, so if you’re not into this, then Berserk: The Golden Age Arc Trilogy is not for you.
OVERALL THOUGHTS: Although the second anime reboot of a classic manga series, Berserk: The Golden Age Arc Trilogy, is just as good as the original anime before it. A bit of a shame that we’re already in our third reboot of Berserk in 2016, but it’s fairly popular. The character development between the three leads steals the show. Otaku Dome gives Berserk: The Golden Arc Trilogy Blu-Ray an 83 out of 100.
