The continuation of A Certain Magical Index leaves off pretty much immediately where the original leaves off, with Toma having not done his homework over the Summer break, then the series jumps right into the new plot. The new characters involved bring new action and comedy to a great series, that may take some getting used to from regular Shonen fans.

A Certain Magical Index II is an 2010 Shonen anime series, it is produced by J.C. Staff, and licensed by Funimation. It is currently available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and streaming services.

A Certain Magical Index II takes place immediately after the original series, it’s not your average Shonen, there’s a large amount of ecchi and comedy in comparison to more mainstream Shonen titles, but it never takes away from the show, in a lot of cases it actually adds to it, and can be genuinely funny. But if you’re into other Shonen titles that’s heavy on the action, then it will take about four or five episodes to get into.

THE GOOD: A Certain Magical Index collides the worlds of science and magic into one. The series which stars the main character Toma, has some interesting characters, and an even more interesting story. Season two is more action focused it seems in comparison to season one, which was more story focused. While it takes some getting used to in comparison to most Shonen, those who stick with it are in for a rather surprising treat.

THE BAD: Some of the dubbed voices took some serious getting used to, as did the series itself if you’re just coming from watching another Shonen series such as say Dragon Ball? The comedy and ecchi was a little heavy, but it’s funny enough to keep you going.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: While most Shonen fans won’t be able to jump into A Certain Magical Index right away, those who choose to stick with it will be in for a fun ride. The comedy and ecchi was heavy in comparison to most Shonen, but it never takes anything away from the series. The Dub voices weren’t always the greatest, but the overall presentation of the series makes it a nice alternative to most Shonen that’s out these days. Otaku Dome gives A Certain Magical Index II an 79 out of 100.
